The Amanecer Developmental Preschool program in Gilbert Public Schools serves students with IEPs and their typical peer models.
Educational programming is provided by a special education teacher, with the support of a highly qualified paraprofessional. Therapy services are provided within the preschool classroom/campus setting.
Two class sessions are provided Monday through Thursday, each having a typical maximum ratio of 1/8. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, students attend 2.5 hours. Every Wednesday is an early release day where each session is 2 hours. Daily instruction is presented through thematic units based on the Arizona Early Learning Standards and assessed 3 times a year through Teaching Strategies GOLD.
A little information about myself........
I can't believe this is my 39th year of teaching and my ninth year teaching at Houston. My educational certification in elementary education and certificates in special education, ELL and early childhood education has allowed me to teach preschool special education, kindergarten, first grade and special education K-5.
After living in four states, my husband, Bob, and I decided to make Arizona our home and have lived in here for 32 years, raising our two sons in the Tempe school system. I am so happy that both of our sons and their families have made the Valley their home, which allows us to be active in our 6 grandchildren's lives. When I am not teaching or with family, I enjoy drinking green ice tea (no sweetener!) from Starbucks, watching Hallmark movies and University of Michigan football games, baking, reading, music and doing various crafts.
